Gingerbread Man Science Experiment FREEBIE

I love, love, love my two week long Gingerbread Man Unit!  It's definitely one of the most memorable units that we have all year.  Here's how I pull it off:

Literacy
Week 1:  Read the traditional story of The Gingerbread Man.  There are so many versions of this book!  Any one will work.  Read The Gingerbread Boy  and The Gingerbread Girl. Sequence the stories using sequencing activities from Deanna Jump's fantastic Gingerbread Man Math and Literacy Fun Unit

Week 2: Read non-traditional versions of the story including The Gingerbread Ninja, The Gingerbread Pirates, The Gingerbread Bear, The Gingerbread Baby, and The Gingerbread Girl Goes Animal Crackers.  Have your students compare and contrast the different stories.  Ask them to name their favorite story and tell why it is their favorite.

Math
I created this Gingerbread Man Math Unit especially to use with the above mentioned literature.  It has some fantastic activities to keep your kiddos engaged!  The best part, it's on sale from now until December 14th, so be sure to pick it up at the discounted price. :)

Science
I think my kiddos enjoy this Gingerbread Man Science Experiment more than any other part of this unit of study!  Click the link to download this FREEBIE to use with your class!

Trust me, your kiddos will be talking about this unit for weeks to come!  Have fun!

Winter Wonderland Math and Literacy Centers GIVEAWAY

I had a wonderful, much needed Christmas Break!  Yesterday should have been our first day back.  This Arctic blast kind of put a kink in my plans for the upcoming week.  We were out today and will be again tomorrow.  Well, when we do finally go back, my kiddos will be completing activities from Deanna Jump's Sneezy the Snowman Math and Literacy Fun unit.  This unit is adorable!  It includes Math and Literacy centers plus a lot of engaging whole group activities that I'm really looking forward to!  If you don't already have this one, I highly recommend it!

Last summer I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from Deanna at the Missouri Kindergarten Conference, and I'm telling you folks--she is one of the sweetest, most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.  This unit was the door prize that I won, so I wanted to give her a shout out.  Thanks Deanna!

In addition to Sneezy, my kiddos will also be using my Winter Wonderland Math and Literacy Centers, which is one of my top-selling products on TpT!

I'll be giving away these units to five fellow teachers who follow my Facebook page and leave their email address in the comments section of the post titled Winter Wonderland Math and Literacy Centers Giveaway.  Click on my Facebook link to enter!  This giveaway will end on Monday, January 13th, so be quick!  Scroll down to see a preview of some of what's included in this unit.

You can check out the full preview here.  Good luck and stay warm friends!

Gingerbread Man Plans Plus a Giveaway!

One more day until Thanksgiving Break for me friends!  Woo-hoo!  I'm so excited to spend some extra time with this little munchkin. Doesn't she just put a smile on your face?! :)

While I'm not in any hurry for Thanksgiving week to pass, I am looking ahead to next week...the first week in December!  We're kicking off the month of December with a fun-filled week dedicated to the Gingerbread Man.  We'll be reading the original story and throwing in some other versions along the way.  Our plans include Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett, Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst, and Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett.  We'll be comparing and contrasting the stories and making a class pictograph of our favorite book at the end of the week.

We'll also be using the Gingerbread Man Math Mini-Unit
during our Math block.

We'll be getting hands-on while working in pairs to complete Gingerbread Man Measurement to kick things off.

We'll also be completing some Gingerbread Man-themed Math Centers this week.

Additionally, I have planned to use some no-prep Math materials, which are also included in this mini-unit.  I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend my whole break preparing for the upcoming week! ;)

I just can't think of anything better to kick-off Thanksgiving Break than a giveaway for my teacher friends!  Would you like to win my Gingerbread Man Math Mini-Unit?  If so, click on the link to my Facebook page, follow me (if you're not already a follower), and leave a comment including your email address under the Gingerbread Man Math Mini Unit Giveaway post.  That's it!  I'll be picking five lucky winners on Monday, December 2nd!  Good luck and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break with your families!
